TEAM SELECTION PROCESS
Selection will be based on the following criteria:
Skill Level/Throwing/Hitting/ Catching/Running
Knowledge of Offensive/Defensive Concepts
Team size will be determined by the coach. Players that are not selected to the team will be spoken to privately and user fees will be returned.
JV and Middle School practices generally run from 2:30 – 4:00 PM on Monday through Friday. Varsity practices typically run from 2:30-4:45 PM. At the High School level there is occasionally a practice one day on the weekend.
Athletes are expected to be at all practices unless absent from school.
Before joining a team, each athlete should determine whether they can meet the time commitment that is necessary for the good of the program.
Unless otherwise indicated, games are generally at 3:30. All teams travel on the same bus. Parents need to pick up their child promptly at Tahanto when the bus arrives from the away site.
Players should dress appropriately…sneakers or cleats, depend on whether the practice is indoors or outdoors. long pants for sliding, and clothes conducive to the temperature and precipitation.
All players should have their own softball gloves. Batting gloves are also recommended. Players are responsible for their uniforms. Any player that loses his/her uniform is obligated to pay the replacement cost.
Varsity – No player is guaranteed playing time; every effort will be made to allow each player to contribute to the success of the team on a regular basis.
JV – Every effort will be made to give each JV player the opportunity to play in the game provided they have attended practices, have displayed a positive attitude and have not violated any school/team rules.
MS - Every effort will be made to give each MS player the opportunity to play in the game provided they have attended practices, have displayed a positive attitude and have not violated any school/team rules.
All team members must ride the bus to away games when a bus is provided.
Middle School students may ride home with their parent/guardian provided they have brought in a note to the main office on the day of the game. (It must be the parent/guardian of the student that they are riding with NOT someone else’s parents).
Please make arrangements to pick your son/daughter up from the practices at the time that practice is over and from the games when the bus arrives back at Tahanto.
Communication regarding practices, game schedules, cancellations etc. can be found on the Tahanto athletic web site. Please check the site on a regular basis as changes are made frequently due to weather, cancellations, gym availability, etc. Each team has their own web page where the information for that team can be found.
When parents or players have a problem, concern, or question please contact the coach of the team. The coach’s contact information can be found on the Tahanto athletic web site. If there is a general question please contact the athletic director.
We strongly encourage players to talk to their coaches when they have questions or concerns. Each varsity player will be invited to a google classroom site where tutorial videos, drills, and the like will be posted during the season.
Please do not coach your son/daughter from the bleachers. Every parent wants to help their child succeed and it’s your parental instinct to want to do so at all times, even during the games. You should help your child succeed, but not during the game. Talk with them before the game, talk with them after the game, but during the game, that’s the coach’s job and the players’ opportunity to perform on their own. Remember the coach is the only one that is there at all practices and is coaching ALL of the players.
We believe the parents’ roles are to be our biggest fans and offer positive encouragement to all members of the team.
Parents play a vital role in supporting our athletes and in the team’s overall success. Exemplary sportsmanship will be expected from parents towards our players, coaches, officials and our opponents.
Please allow officials to officiate, coaches to coach, and players to take direction from their coaches.
