Skill Level/Passing/Dribbling/ Shooting/ Defense
Knowledge of Offensive/Defensive Concepts
Team size will be determined by the coach. Players that are not selected to the team will be spoken to privately and user fees will be returned.
Varsity/JV Commitments: There are games/practices scheduled on multiple weekends. Players trying out for JV and/or Varsity are expected to attend all practices/games.
PRACTICES
Times of Varsity and JV practices vary and are generally between 2:30 – 5:00 pm on Mondays through Friday. At the Varsity level there is usually a practice one day on the weekend and occasionally a practice on the weekend at the JV level.
Middle School practices are generally between 2:30 and 4:30
Players are expected to be at all practices unless absent from school.
Before trying out for a team, each player should determine whether they can meet the time commitment that is necessary for the good of the team.
GAMES
Games for Middle School are generally at 3:30. On most away games the boys and girls soccer teams travel together on one bus and one team may play at 3:30 followed by the other team playing generally around 4:30. The bus will return to Tahanto after the 2nd game is over. Home games are played simultaneously.
JV and Varsity Games are generally at 3:30/4 and are played simultaneously. Both teams travel on the same bus.
EQUIPMENT
Players should dress appropriately…soccer cleats and shin guards at all times. Players also need to bring running sneakers to all practices.
Players are responsible for their uniforms. Any player that loses his/her uniform is obligated to pay the replacement cost.
PLAYING TIME
Varsity – No player is guaranteed playing time; every effort will be made to allow each player to contribute to the success of the team on a regular basis.
JV – Every effort will be made to give each JV player the opportunity to play in the game provided they have attended practices, have displayed a positive attitude and have not violated any school/team rules.
MS - Every effort will be made to give each MS player the opportunity to play in the game provided they have attended practices, have displayed a positive attitude and have not violated any school/team rules.
TRANSPORTATION
All team members must ride the bus to away games when a bus is provided.
Middle School students may ride home with their parent/guardian provided they have brought in a note to the main office on the day of the game. (It must be the parent/guardian of the student that they are riding with NOT someone else’s parents)
Please make arrangements to pick your son/daughter up from the practices at the time that practice is over and from the games when the bus arrives back at Tahanto.
COMMUNICATION
Communication regarding practices, game schedules, cancellations etc. can be found on the Tahanto athletic web site. Please check the site on a regular basis as changes are made frequently due to weather, cancellations, gym availability, etc. Each team has their own web page where the information for that team can be found
When parents or players have a problem, concern, or question please contact the coach of the team. The coach’s contact information can be found on the Tahanto athletic web site by selecting the Athletic tab, the sport and then the level under quicklinks. If there is a general question please contact the athletic director.
We strongly encourage players to talk to their coaches when they have questions or concerns.
SPECTATOR CONDUCT
Please do not coach your son/daughter from the bleachers. Every parent wants to help their child succeed and it’s your parental instinct to want to do so at all times, even during the games. You should help your child succeed, but not during the game. Talk with them before the game, talk with them after the game, but during the game, that’s the coach’s job and the players’ opportunity to perform on their own. Remember the coach is the only one that is there at all practices and is coaching ALL of the players.
We believe the parents’ roles are to be our biggest fans and offer positive encouragement to all members of the team.
Parents play a vital role in supporting our athletes and in the team’s overall success. Exemplary sportsmanship will be
expected from parents toward our players, coaches, officials, and our opponents. Please allow officials to officiate,
coaches to coach, and players to take direction from their coaches
